History
The concept of a global organization for Islamic writers was first proposed by Maulana Sayyid Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi (r.a.) at Damascus University, Syria. Following overwhelming support from Arab scholars, a historic inaugural meeting was held in Lucknow, India, in 1984, where the League was officially established.

Before the formal establishment, Maulana Nadwi (r.a.), accompanied by prominent scholars, visited the Cave of Hira in Makkah—the site of the first revelation of the Quran (Iqra). There, he offered special prayers for the success of this literary mission.
After the passing of Maulana Nadwi (r.a.) in 1999, the central headquarters moved from Lucknow to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Board of Trustees elected Dr. Abdul Quddus Abu Saleh as the Central President.
Today, the League has active branches in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Morocco, and Tunisia.
The Pakistan branch was established in May 1996 under the guidance of Maulana Sayyid Muhammad Rabey Hasani Nadwi. The office was inaugurated at Jamia Ashrafia, Lahore, during Maulana Ali Mian’s final visit to Pakistan in 1997.
Since then, the Pakistan chapter has organized over a dozen national and international seminars and maintains a membership of over 150 prominent scholars and professors.
